Governor’s Cup Cooking Team Competition

Local teams compete each year for the Governor’s Cup and bragging rights as the Grand Champions of the International Bar-B-Q Festival. There are place awards in each category judged, with an overall Grand Champion awarded from the team with the most points out of all three categories.

Teams compete in Mutton, Chicken and Burgoo and are required to cook a minimum of 600 pounds of Mutton, 300 Chickens and 60 gallons of Burgoo.  Teams often cook more to ensure Festival attendees can purchase their favorites by the gallon or pound when sales start at 3pm on Saturday.   Teams also cook 600 pounds of Pork to offer when the pits open for selling on Saturday.

Test your skills in choosing this year’s Grand Champion by visiting each team’s pits beginning on Friday at 5PM.   The teams offer mutton and pork sandwiches and burgoo along with cold drinks on Friday evening and all day Saturday.  Try them all to find your favorite BBQ and Burgoo team!

Proceeds from the cooking teams go to local charities and educational organizations. Volunteers begin planning months in advance and work long hours during the Festival weekend to ensure that Bar-B-Q Festival attendees are rewarded with “good ole Daviess County Bar-B-Q!”
